'What better than to find someone who actually knows and enjoys what they are
doing for a living?' Well, that is how some of my clients have put it to me whilst
carrying out an installation. It may only be a television set. It may be a complete
home of vast proportions fitted with full multi-room audio/visual equipment. Either
way, the objectives remain the same; to obtain the highest performance from any
set-up through careful installation. Pictures on televisions are correctly adjusted.
Home cinema audio system sound equalization settings are balanced to the room
acoustic and seating plan. These critical adjustments are in-line with the standards
set by studio technicians in broadcast media, of which some are clients who ask
for my advice in the domestic product field for selection of equipment and correct
installation. Such work often comes with repeat business every few years from the
same household wishing to update the furnishings of another room. Sometimes
even planning a house move where dismantling and re-installing the systems take
place. Every aspect of my work is built on thirty years experience in this field.
From time to time, the question arises from clients as to where the necessary know-
how comes from. Many years have been spent with installation companies and
specialist hi-fi retail outlets. Two of these were within the London arm of a leading
department store group where there was free reign for me to run the merchandising
and demonstration facilities. With the cosmopolitan client base of many business
professionals who I came into contact with from the two London stores came the
realisation that there existed a need for specialist installation for some of the
equipment that was being sold. Most of the installation companies that have operated
in London for retail being structured around a multi-drop service. For some, this
service has been all that has been required. Cost-effective and quick. However, after
fourteen years as a freelance consultant/installer, the need for specialist assistance is
a must for many. That my business is actually borne out of a long established
interest in hi-fi and interior design makes for the best results.
